Schaeffler Develops 4-in-1 Electric Axles

German automotive supplier Schaeffler has developed new electric axle drives. The e-axles integrate the electric motor, power electronics, transmission, and thermal management in one compact unit, thus saving space and weight. They are also designed to increase the range and shorten the charging times of electric vehicles. With these new developments, which include an electric “Beam E” rigid axle for pick-up trucks, Schaeffler intends to enable a greater variety of drive variants.

Efficient interaction of components

According to the company, Schaeffler attaches particular importance to the efficient interaction of all vehicle components. Thermal management plays an important role here, as it influences both efficiency and comfort. The company’s goal is to offer electric drives for various vehicle types, from passenger cars to light and heavy commercial vehicles. Schaeffler has established production sites worldwide for the manufacture of electric axles.
