Japanese specialty metal manufacturer Proterial has developed innovative ferrite magnets (NMF 15) and simulated their use in potential applications. According to the company formerly known as “Hitachi Metals,” the development team at the Global Research & Innovative Technology Center has demonstrated that the output power of the electric motor achieved in the simulations is comparable to that of conventionally used neodymium magnets.
Proterial achieved this result through an optimized design arrangement. The ferrite magnets could therefore be an alternative to neodymium magnets without using rare-earth elements. The use of NMF 15 in electric motors is said to contribute to solving the scarcity of and dependence on resources.
