PEM Investigates Hollow Conductor Material for Hairpin Stators

Together with mechanical engineering company Wafios, the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) of RWTH Aachen University is currently investigating the processing of waveguide wire in automated bending. The focus is on the feasibility of bending waveguide wire into characteristic hairpins for electric motors.

Currently, the development of efficient cooling concepts for electric motors is one of the largest fields of e-motor research. While waveguide wire as a starting material for stators with flat wire windings enables direct cooling of the current-carrying winding, it poses major challenges in production. The aim is to present a hairpin stator with waveguide wire at the Coiltech trade fair in Italy next September.
