MAHLE Receives German Innovation Award for Magnet-Free Electric Motor

Automotive developer and supplier MAHLE has received the “German Innovation Award” from the German Design Council for the company’s magnet-free electric motor. The technology group received the award in the “Excellence in Business-to-Business E-Mobility Technologies” category. The innovative motor’s production does not require rare-earth materials, is wear-free and therefore conserves resources.

Efficiency reaches more than 95%

With an efficiency of over 95% in the most common driving conditions, the electric motor exceeds previous standards and achieves values on a par with Formula E racing cars. Experts see this as an indication of promising market potential. In addition, the new motor can be used in a wide range of applications, from small cars to vans. According to MAHLE, the magnet-free motor is an “innovative leap in electric mobility”: It combines several advantages which have never before been merged in one product and forms the basis for sustainable and resource-saving drive systems in line with the company’s electric mobility strategy.
