BorgWarner launches torque vectoring system with integrated axle deactivation

BorgWarner is the first supplier to deliver a torque vectoring system with integrated axle deactivation (eTVD) for electric vehicles. It is being used for the first time in the Polestar 3 SUV and another major European OEM. The eTVD is part of the Electric Torque Management System (eTMS) and enables intelligent distribution of torque to the individual wheels of an axle.

Advantages of a flexible and powerful 3-in-1 system

The compact and powerful 3-in-1 system replaces the differentials installed in today’s electric vehicles and offers both torque vectoring and on-demand axle disconnection. In addition to improving stability, dynamics and traction during starting, acceleration and evasive manoeuvres, the eTVD also reduces unwanted braking interventions, rolling movements and vibrations compared to conventional brake-based systems. This results in less brake and tyre wear as well as reduced particulate emissions.
